What is one of your favorite classes?
My favorite class this year is also my hardest - Early Modern World History. I selected this course because I wanted to learn about our world's ancient civilizations, but it turned out to be so much more in depth than that. I am constantly drawn in by this course when our teacher challenges us to debate topics we normally wouldn't consider, scrutinize ideas we've taken for granted, and question each others' beliefs. I've never had to work harder in a class, constantly thinking on my feet and coming up with new arguments, but I've also never been more engaged.
What song is on repeat for you right now?
Rewrite the Stars from The Greatest Showman
What is a core Drew memory you want to share?
When I performed a dance at the 415 with members of my club. I'm not a dancer - at all - so just the thought of performing in front of everyone and their mother (and father, brother, sister, friend...) was petrifying. Once I got on stage, though, I had a lot of fun, even if I didn't nail every move. It's an experience I look back on today, and remind myself that if I can get on stage in front of hundreds of strangers, I can pretty much do anything!
How was the transition from middle school to high school and how did Drew help?
I went to a really large, public middle school and after that, a really small, private high school. I didn't feel comfortable or supported in either environment. When I transferred into Drew in my Sophomore year, I realized that it was the perfect size, as well as the perfect balance between academics, extracurriculars, and school spirit - things that were either too much or too little at my last schools. We are the perfect size to mingle with people in other grades, which makes the transition from middle school to high school feel supported.
What are you doing for your senior project?
I've chosen to go down the creative track, and combine my love for writing with my love for visual arts and food. I'm selecting specifically immigrant owned/small business bakeries and restaurants around SF, and writing reviews as well as adding my own illustrations. I'm hoping to bring awareness to lesser known businesses and cuisines, and celebrate the diversity we are lucky to see represented in the city!
