Student Leadership Roles and Other Activities:
At Drew I participate in ASB. I have been a part of ASB for all 3 years I have attended Drew. Currently I serve as the Junior Executive which was elected by the entire student body. In addition to ASB, I also am a part of the Admissions team where I tour rising freshman and prospective transfer students.
Athletics:
Girls Varsity Soccer
Frosh/Soph Volleyball
Track and Field
Girls Varsity Lacrosse
I have met some of my best friends through all of these sports and am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to try sports I had never previously played.
Why did you choose Drew?
I chose Drew because I wanted to go to a school that gave me the opportunity to have closer relationships with my teachers. It is important to me that my teacher understands the kind of student I am and if I need help they are available to meet with me one on one. The size of Drew makes this possible. I am able to be a part of things like ASB and the Admissions team while at some larger schools it can be much harder to get involved in things like this.
The second main reason I chose Drew was because I wanted to go to a school where I could participate in sports that I had never played before. I had never done Track or Volleyball until I came to Drew and luckily for me the team had space for me. I didn't have to have any prior experience which was really nice and allowed me to meet so many people I had never overlapped with anywhere else.
How do you think you have changed since starting at Drew and what do you think Drew had to do with that change?
When I first came to Drew I was nervous about saying the wrong thing. In both class settings and in ASB I was worried my thoughts and ideas may not be good enough or correct. Drew has taught me that every idea is a valid idea. It's important to say your ideas and thoughts even if they need some tweaking or they are incorrect because chances are there is likely someone else in the class who was thinking the same thing you are and now you are helping both yourself and them! I have really found my voice at Drew and I believe this is due to the positive learning environment, smaller class sizes, and extracurricular opportunities that the school offers.
What is something you accomplished at Drew that you feel proud to have done?
This year the Girls Varsity Soccer Team won the BCL Central Championship for the third year in a row. I am super proud of myself and the team for this accomplishment as we have made school history. I truly love playing with this team and I am so sad to see the seniors go!
What are three words you think your friends would use to describe you?
Outgoing, Kind Hearted, Perseverant
What song is on repeat for you right now?
Cry For Me by The Weekend
What is a core Drew memory you want to share?
A core memory for me at Drew was performing at the 415 my freshman year. I did a performance about the city of San Francisco where I danced behind a large white curtain and we used colored lighting and cardboard cutouts to portray a tour of San Francisco. It was about three minutes long and gave me some of my favorite few minutes on the Drew campus.
What do you like to do for lunch?
During lunch I enjoy going to Laurel Village with my friends because there are many different food options. If I don't feel like going out, sitting outside in the courtyard or in the student cafe with my peers are also some of my favorite places to eat lunch.
How was the transition from middle school to high school and how did Drew help?
The transition from middle school to Drew was fairly smooth. Drew does a good job making activities for the freshman grade in the early days/weeks of school that force you to integrate and meet with students in your grade. It helped me to find some of my closest friends and made me feel more comfortable as I walked around seeing familiar faces.
What are you passionate about outside of Drew?
Working with kids has always been something I am passionate about. For the last two summers I have volunteered as a program aide at a school called Horizons where I teach rising first and second graders. Horizons is a space for children in low income families who attend public schools all around the Mission and need extra school during the summer. It is hosted by San Francisco Friends School which is originally how I found out about it because that is where I went from 1st - 8th grade. I have grown to really love the program and the kids there and genuinely enjoy going to volunteer every summer.
