Why did you choose Drew?
I chose Drew because I could see myself as a student here. When I would tour other high schools, I felt like I was touring high schools, and I wasn't a part of the community, but when I toured Drew, I felt like I was already a student and part of the community. Whenever I visited, I immediately felt welcomed by the people around me, and while touring classes, I was able to see how Drew's hands-on and personal learning approach matched with mine and made me want to go here even more!
If you had to choose a favorite activity/experience at Drew, what would it be and why?
My favorite experience at Drew has been during my freshman year when I worked on our school's biggest event, the 415. This event was my first time being a real leader in the Drew community, and I was able to learn so many new skills while setting up, working, performing, and cleaning up the event. Despite all the work it took to put the event together, the 415 was my biggest highlight of freshman year.
What is one of your favorite classes?
One of my favorite classes at Drew is U.S. History, and my favorite project from that class is when we did a Patriots versus Loyalists debate during our Revolutionary War unit. I love debating, and this project was a great outlet for me to show those skills in class. I also had a lot of fun. :)
How do you think you have changed since starting at Drew and what do you think Drew had to do with that change?
When I first started at Drew, I was not a leader, and talking in front of people, telling them what to do, was the scariest thing. This all changed the first month of my freshman year. In middle school, I always wanted to be involved in student government, but I was always too nervous to campaign. Drew finally gave me the opportunity to join student government; as for freshmen, instead of an election, they had interviews. This allowed me to try a new extracurricular, and now ASB is definitely my favorite thing I do here.
What are three words you think your friends would use to describe you?
Driven, caring, passionate
How was the transition from middle school to high school and how did Drew help?
The transition from middle school to high school was the scariest aspect of starting high school for me, but Drew made it easy. We started the year by only being with our grade, which allowed me to get close to my grade fast and make friends without fear, as we were all in the same boat. Additionally, Drew wants to make sure freshmen are mostly with freshmen for the first month or so of school; for example, we all sit together on the third floor and I attribute this to being the best part of the transition. We had a specific place to sit, and I got to bond with my new friends instead of being terrified. Overall, the transition from middle to high school was very smooth for me, and that was all aided by the efforts Drew took for freshmen to connect with their class.
What is something you can find at Drew that you can't find anywhere else?
The amount of leadership opportunities Drew offers is definitely one of the most unique aspects of Drew. I talk to my friends at other schools, and maybe they're in leadership or one of their friends are, but at Drew, almost everyone I know is in leadership. I believe this is one of the most distinct aspects of Drew and one of my favorite parts.
